I can't think of another ballet company that could produce a rock ballet, Cleopatra: A Rock Ballet, the perennial favorite, Nutcracker, a story ballet with characters romping through the forest, Robin Hood, and a repertory program, Ballet Spectacular, that will present contemporary and classical works as well as Balanchine masterpieces. "An electrifying performance that will touch on all your emotions."

We invite you to subscribe to our fantastic 42nd season. You save money over single ticket prices, and if you purchase 3 subscriptions you receive a fourth at no additional cost! Check out our special events as well. Each has its own character and appeal. A fantastic evening for adults or a special treat for a favorite child. Your choice!

In the air. Indicates: (1) that a movement is to be made in the air; for example, rond de jambe en l'air; (2) that the working leg, after being opened to the second or fourth position à terre, is to be raised to a horizontal position with the toe on the level of the hip.

Hello and Good-bye

August saw DANB saying goodbye to three dancers. Felice Le, most recently one of the geisha's in Madame Butterfly, leaves to pursue her master's degree in science. Husband and wife couple Jeremy Lemme ('Nutcracker Prince' and Aeia Bridled) and Jennifer Wilson (the ditsy butterfly in Lady Bug: Action Hero!, geisha in Madame Butterfly, and one of the gorgeous dancers in Aeia Bridled) are heading to Montreal where Jennifer will be in rehearsal with Cirque du Soleil. Following rehearsals the couple will be heading to Macao to perform with Cirque. A fantastic opportunity, but we will greatly miss all three dancers. Carla e Andre!

Two new dancers arrived from Brazil on August 10th, just two weeks after their marriage! After two days, they love "how green everything is" and even like the humidity! Their tiny dog, Freddie, has already made himself at home and Carla can hardly wait to bring her family here for a visit!

Carla Amâncio trained at the Grupo Corpo Ballet School until joining Ballet Cristina Helena where she was featured soloist. She joined Sesiminas Dance Company where she performed as First Soloist until beginning a freelance career as guest artist. She is outstanding as a performer in roles in "Esmeralda", "La Corsaire", "La Bayadere", "Coppelia", "Don Quixote", and "Diana and Acteon" which she performed in Havana, Cuba at the Closing Gala in 1997. Ms. Amâncio was awarded 1st Place at the III Junior Capezio Festival, Brazil; 1st and 2nd places at the CBDD Unidanca Competition, Brazil; and Finalist at the Concours Internacional de Danse de Paris, France.

André (Andy) Valladon studied at Studio de Danas Helena in Brazil before joining Grupo Corpo Brazilian Dance Company. One year later he became Principal Dancer at Minas Gerais Dance Company. In 1955 he represented Brazil at the International Dance Competition in Osaka, Japan where he received the Lift Prize and a contract with Jeunne Ballet de France. Mr. Valladon was then invited to join first the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Theatre Ballet and then Sesiminas Dance Company as Principal Dancer. Mr. Valladon has been awarded several Gold Medals, Revelation Prize, Character Dance Revelation Price and Grand Prix at the Joinville International Dance Festival, Brazil; Gold Medal Classic and Contemporary at the CBDD National Dance Competition, Brazil; Finalist at the USA International Ballet Competition in Jackson, Mississippi, and Concours de Danse de Paris, France.

You can expect high energy, exquisite lines, and wonderful dramatic expression from this couple.

Dancing Quotes

Dancing is like dreaming with your feet

Dance is so important in the world. It needs no language. Our bodies speak a language of its own.
