CARMINA BURANA is about love, lust and life in the 13th century. With over 250 performers, this remarkable production touches on all our emotions. You just can't beat the sound of a full orchestra and 2 choruses! For this production of CARMINA, DANB joins with the UF Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Maestro Raymond Chobaz and the UF Concert Choir and Gainesville Civic Chorus under the direction of Dr. Will Kesling. Joining to add even more glorious sound, three guest soloists from the world of opera - Tenor Cooper Nolan, Baritone Dan Kempson and Soprano Ashley Dannewitz.
CARMINA BURANA has been presented 7 times in Gainesville since 1981. Choreographed by Tom Pazik for DANB, this 2012 production provides once more an opportunity to witness an extraordinary, not-to-be missed, ballet which impressively combines the profane and the profound ... the religious and the erotic.
"At its core, CARMINA is a one-of-a-kind manuscript of poems and songs that deal with basic human themes such as the fickleness of luck, the inevitability of death, the joy and pain of love, and the predominance of human frailties over virtue. The poems and songs celebrate springtime, love, gambling and drinking and propose a concern with the human condition. Set to the music of the world renowned German composer, Carl Orff, CARMINA BURANA is a masterpiece of both classical music and satire."
