DANB joins the University of Florida Orchestra and Chorus with guest vocalists in the widely acclaimed, brilliant production of CARMINA BURANA.  Choreographed for DANB in 1980 by Tom Pazik to music by Carl Orff, audiences continue to be stunned by this magnificent work.  Onstage, the defrocked monks of Buren open the doors to the world - and take the audience along for a dynamic, breathtaking and utterly moving journey from Adam and Eve to Armageddon.

Look at the Carmina Fest (special events)for preferred orchestra seating, fine food and wine and a pre-show talk that will make this a fantastic evening.

.The Choreography

Choreography for this work was created specifically for DANB by Tom Pazik, who has been nationally acclaimed for his originality and creativity.  He interprets Carmina Burana as a story of mankind from the creation of Adam and Eve to the Apocalypse.  The composer's Wheel of Fortune becomes for Pazik the Circle of Infinity, encompassing all humanity's hopes and doubts, joys and fears, strengths and frailities.

The Music

Although the poems of Carmina Burana are medieval, they have been put to modern music by the contemporary German composer Carl Orff.   Orff delights in parody and ridicule of ritual.  Using an augmented percussion section, he emphasizes rhythm and the overall effects strikes one as elemental and primitive.

The Poems

The Carmina Burana (songs of Buren) are thirteenth-century songs written by heretical monks and students, known as the Goliards. The song, written in low Latin and low German, celebrate the secular, not the spiritual joys of life - wine, women and song.

The Production

DANB Artistic Director Kim Tuttle and Maestro Raymond Chobaz have been working toward this presentation of Carmina Burana for several years. The orchestra, celebrating its 100th anniversary, is exceptional and the amazing artists of DANB are perfect for this production - making this the perfect year to once more bring Carmina Burana to the stage.

This promises to be an amazing evening.  Get your  tickets early!
