FIRE AND ICE: An Olympic TrilogyFIRE AND ICE: An Olympic Trilogy
BEFORE ‘FIRE AND ICE’Dance Alive National Ballet entered into a partnership with AOTO, ‘Art of the Olympians’, in the fall of 2008 with the world premier of ‘Constellations’, a ballet set to a wondrous projected backdrop of galaxies viewed from the Hubble telescope to music by Stella Sung, choreography by Kim Tuttle, and the inspired work of art ‘Launch’, by Olympian Liston Bochette, III. The collaboration was so successful, that in March of 2010 DANB and AOTO partnered again, with the resulting ballet ‘SOAR’, inspired by works of art by Olympians Liston Bochette III, Al Oerter and Larry Young. In March of 2011, 'ZOOM' was the result of a collaboration between Olympian Cameron Myler and DANB. March 5, 2011 DANB was invited by HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco to perform at his Grand Gala for AOTO in Ft. Myers, FL
FIRE AND ICE: An Olympic TrilogyAl Oerter once said, "I find the creation of art that no one has ever seen to be fascinating".
In FIRE, representing the Summer Olympics, and ICE, the Winter Olympics DANB presents the third in a trilogy of collaborations between DANB and AOTO, Art of the Olympians. FIRE & ICE features the art work of two Olympic Gold Medal Winners.
Bob Beamon, gold medalist in 1968 for “The Perfect Jump, provides edgy graphic designs for resident choreographerJudy Skinner and Composer Stella Sung. A graphic artist and motivational speaker, Bob is also an accomplished percussionist. If we're lucky, we will have the opportunity to hear him play as well as enjoy his artwork. Mr. Beamon will also be available for "meet and greets". Call 352-371-2986 for information.
Peggy Fleming, the only gold medalist for the US at Grenoble—in figure skating— provides a totally different style of painting for inspiration. Two of her works will be the inspiration for a work choreographed for Principal Dancers Andre Valladon and Michele Incollingo by Kim Tuttle. Ms. Fleming's style, grace and elegance provide the inspiration for another work by Judy Skinner. Kevin Sharpe, winner of the International Bach Competition, will perform for this work. Another of her images is the inspiration for a collaboration between DANB and Alachua County Humane Society; presenting a 'Puppy Parade' with pets available for adoption during intermission!
Choreographer Cristina Helena, considered one of Brazil's most gifted choreographers, has created a work for Principals Carla Amancio and Fhilipe Teixeira for the "FIRE" in FIRE AND ICE.
Finally, Artistic Director Kim Tuttle pulls everything together for a dazzling finale. Projections, sculpture, and art hangings provide the dynamic background for this truly riveting evening of dance.
